You do not need a perfect bedtime schedule to raise a reader. Consistency beats length—a few minutes most days adds up faster than one long session on the weekend.
Try anchoring reading to something you already do: after brushing teeth, before lights out, or while dinner cools. Let your child pick the book sometimes, even if it is the same title three nights in a row.
Ask one open question instead of quizzing: What surprised you? Who would you tell this story to? Which picture was your favorite?
Keep books visible—in a basket by the couch, on the kitchen counter, or in the car. Visibility turns reading from an event into part of family life.
Celebrate effort, not speed. A child who listens, points at pictures, or retells one scene is building literacy skills that will support them for years.
